Remember this big banger that hauled Tekno Autosports’ B-Double race transporter around Australia?

TEKNO Autosports acquired a brand-new Western Star 4800 prime mover for its Supercars transporter back in 2013. The Yatala-based squad immediately put it to work hauling the Holden Commodores of Shane van Gisbergen and Jonathon Webb within its B-Double trailer set.

That prime mover turned plenty of heads during its almost seven-year stint in Supercars, before being replaced by a new MAN TGX 26.580 PerformanceLine prime mover as part of a deal with Penske Power Systems Brisbane and Penske Commercial Vehicles.

That meant the Western Star was on the outer mid-way through the 2019 Supercars season. However, there was still a lot of life left in the prime mover, with comparatively low kilometres compared with most other general freight trucks built in the same year.

The big banger has since been acquired by Quick’s Freight Express, which is a general freight business based in the small regional Victorian town of Wattle Flat north-east of Ballarat. According to Ross Quick from Quick’s Freight Express, the truck mainly works around regional Victoria with regular runs to and from Melbourne transporting general freight for multiple customers.

The truck still looks to be in excellent condition, now showing Quick’s Freight Express branding and with some extra decorative touches on the bodywork.

Do you know of any ex-motorsport trucks still out there hauling freight? We’d love to write a story on them. You can contact us at any of the social links below, or email trucksattracks@gmail.com.
