THE END OF THE ROAD FOR STAX FREIGHTLINER

‘Stax’, the Freightliner Coronado prime mover driven by Brad Jones Racing’s Paul Eddy, was given back to Freightliner on Tuesday.

The bonneted prime mover has served the Albury outfit since 2017, with five full seasons towing a B-Double trailer set as part of the Supercars Championship.

The Coronado had plenty of grunt to pull the Brad Jones Racing Commodores and their equipment. It was equipped with a 15-litre Detroit six-cylinder turbo diesel that put out 560hp and 1850lb-ft Nm of torque.

Over its five years in the Supercars roadshow, the Coronado covered just over 160,000 kilometres. If this mileage sounds particularly low, it’s because the teams racked up fewer kilometres during the COVID-19 affected 2020 and 2021 seasons.

Brad Jones Racing’s partnership with Freightliner was one of the longest in the Supercars paddock, dating back to 2014. However, the team will most likely run a different truck brand in 2022.

The team’s other Daimler prime mover, the Freightliner Argosy cabover, will stay with the Albury squad to power its Super2 Series campaign.

We’ll do some digging over the coming months to see where the Coronado ends up next. We’ll also make some inquiries to find out the next move for Brad Jones Racing in transporter-land.

The 2022 Repco Supercars Championship season is edging closer, with the first round set to take place at Sydney Motorsport Park from March 4-6.
